Residents of Sector 20 in Kharghar are expressing their dissatisfaction with the poor quality of manhole and drainage covers being replaced by the Panvel City Municipal Corporation (PCMC) just days before the monsoon season.
Residents have raised concerns about the substandard concrete lids being used, claiming that they are of inferior quality and prone to wear and breakage.
Ashwin Mehta, a resident of Sector 20, Kharghar, stated, "We appreciate the efforts of the PCMC to seal open or cracked drainage covers, but we wish they had given more consideration to the quality of concrete and cement used for these lids. They appear to be of inferior quality and are more susceptible to breakage. There is already a newly placed lid near Yash Avenue that has cracks on its surface."
Sunita Menon, another resident, commented, "The municipal corporation should invest in higher quality concrete covers and ensure that they do not perform a shoddy job that will lead to further problems in the future."
She added, "These covers should be able to withstand both weather conditions and people walking over them. If they develop cracks at an early stage, then what is the point of replacing the covers in the first place? I hope that the PCMC does not repeat these mistakes in other sectors."
