A Sunderland car has been photographed by a resident for its colourful response to the DVLA over the weekend.

Parked on Balmoral Terrace in the Grangetown Area of Sunderland, the car was photographed after a passer-by on the residential street noticed its wheels missing.

The grey Hyundai also appears to have insults directed towards the DVLA scratched across the bodywork as it remains parked on the road.

Pictures of the vehicle show it filled with household items, as the bright yellow clamp remains ignored on the driver's front wheel.

A search on the DVLA database discovered the 2009 car has been declared as having off-road status online, as well as having failed its MOT in April of this year.

Current DVLA rules mean the owner would have to pay a release fee for the vehicle online or show a receipt confirming they have paid their vehicle tax.

Deposits to release cars can range from £160 to an eye-watering £700 for other vehicles.

The Northern Echo contacted the DVLA to find out whether the authority is aware of its condition.

A spokesperson for NSL, the DVLA's wheel clamping authority, confirmed they are aware of the car in question.

They said: "As DVLA's national wheel clamping partner we take enforcement action against untaxed vehicles seen on the roads in different areas of the country.

"We are aware of the vehicle in question and confirm that enforcement will be carried out accordingly and in line with legislation."
