Virgin Media take responsibility for Costessey manhole cover

A three-year mystery surrounding ownership of a dangerously dipping manhole

A three-year mystery surrounding ownership of a dangerously dipping manhole cover has finally been solved.

The sinking cover, outside the Costessey branch of Taverham Vets in Longwater Lane, has caused concern for those who wish to park outside.

Norfolk County Council has been in a dispute about whose responsibility it is to fix the cover, stating it had "issued a Section 81 notice to Virgin Media to request that remedial work is undertaken".

After years of uncertainty and worry about damage to cars, it appears the end is in sight.

Engineers from the telecoms giant were spotted outside the vets on Tuesday, May 23 and confirmed the cover is their responsibility.

The company is working on plans to repair the manhole as soon as possible.

A Virgin Media spokesperson said: "Following an engineer visit to the location, we have now been able to verify that this is our equipment and we're making plans to attend the site again to repair the cover.

"We're working on this as a priority and will carry out the repairs as soon as possible."
